PILATES MAT INSTRUCTOR
WHAT MAKES YOUR CLASS SO AWESOME?
My amazing sense of humor and how I somehow always come up with morbid imagery to help with Pilates cueing. It's a gift y'all.
WHAT IS YOUR TEACHING STYLE?
Playful and nerdy. Honest and gracious. Supportive and fun. Rarely saying my sentences correctly, resorting to baseline phonetics with the hopes that everyone understands what muscles to activate through my grunts and babbles.
& WHAT'S THAT EXTRA SPECIAL SAUCE YOU POUR ON ALL OF YOUR CLASSES!?
Didn't I already mention my sense of humor?
WHAT QUOTE IS MOST LIKELY TO COME OUT OF YOUR MOUTH DURING A CLASS?
"Why am I making us do this?"
IS THERE A SPECIFIC NOUN THAT GOT YOU INTO FITNESS? GUSH ABOUT IT PLEASE!
Yes! My patrilineal grandfather, Poppy Sam. Poppy Sam was a champion boxer in the Army. They called him "Lefty" b/c he was left handed and threw a mean left hook. He would wake up and immediately do his morning exercises, on the floor right next to the bed, and eventually in the bed when the floor became too hard for his aging back. When I would sleep over at their house, my Grandma Little would walk into my room, open the curtains and say "Good morning Sunshine!" Poppy Sam was right behind and we would do his morning exercises together. The bicycle kicks were my favorite, when we would lie on our backs, prop our pelvis up with our arms and core and pretend we were riding an upside down bicycle. Looking back, a lot of them were Pilates based, but I didn't know it at the time. My Poppy Sam walked balanced and strong. When he turned 100, after much convincing, he started to walk with a walker...but he would just pick the thing up and carry it. The tennis balls on the front feet of the walker barely had any marks. My Poppy Sam passed 7 weeks before his 101st birthday. He was strong in so many ways.
WHEN YOU'RE NOT FITNESSING, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO?
Eating! I love food and I love cooking. My favorite way to travel is dancing and eating my way through a town.
WHEN YOU'RE FEELING DOWN, WHAT'S ONE THING YOU SAY TO YOURSELF TO GET YOU GOING?
"I am loved."
