WHERE ARE YOU FROM? WHY PORTLAND?
I'm an Oregon local who grew up in the western foothills of Mt. Hood. Portland is a perfect hub for the "weekend adventure" because of its proximity to most of Oregon's amazing variety of landscapes and ecosystems, plus it is a paradise for vegan food!
WHAT BROUGHT YOU TO THE MEFIT FAM?
I started out as a member at ME Fitness in early 2017. It was my first time in a gym, and I couldn't have felt more welcomed. I started taking Small Group classes, did some private training sessions, and grew my love of fitness into my occupation! Now I wear all kinds of hats at ME Fit: front desk concierge, fitness instructor, and personal trainer!
WHAT MAKES YOUR JOB SO AWESOME?
Truly, it's the people. Our management team, my peers at the front desk and the instructors, and the vibrant community of members all make the job worthwhile. The compassion and good humor that circulates through the staff is unlike any other workplace, and getting to catch up with members and share their fitness journeys with them is an absolute pleasure.
IS THERE A SPECIFIC MOMENT THAT GOT YOU INTO FITNESS?
GUSH ABOUT IT PLEASE!
I'm a huge outdoors enthusiast, so my primary exposure to fitness and activity was hiking. When the weather turned and my willingness to brave the cold was low, I turned to strength training (with ME Fitness's own Rachel Goff!) to cross-train. I positively fell in love with lifting heavy things, and once I got ahold of kettlebells and barbells, my life was changed. They helped me build the strength, stability, and stamina I needed to grow as a hiker and push my limits!
WHEN YOU'RE NOT AT ME FITNESS, WHAT ARE YOU UP TO?
In true Kensie fashion, I'm often found dancing shamelessly in public or hitting the trails to go backpacking, trail running, or mountain climbing. But I've also been known to bake a cake or two!
WHEN YOU'RE FEELING DOWN, WHAT'S ONE THING YOU SAY TO YOURSELF TO GET YOU GOING?
If I'm starting the day: "If I just roll around and stretch out on the floor, it certainly won't hurt."
If I'm tackling a new challenge: "Lean into it, push past the limits you've set, you're capable and you can do it."
